BRENTWOOD, Tenn., January 7, 2019 – The 2019 PGA TOUR season began the same way the 2018 season ended…with replaceable cleat technology on the footwear worn by the winner of the Sentry Tournament of Champions. The world’s number six ranked golfer led the limited-field event while wearing cleated footwear as he shot a sizzling 11 under par final round for a one-stroke victory.
“Golfers on the TOUR – like everyday golfers – have their choice of the footwear they want to wear,” said John Hohman, senior vice president of marketing for PrideSports. “We continue to see the best of the best selecting footwear with cleats. With the rules change allowing players to tamp down cleat marks on the green, we expect this trend to only increase as we enter the new golf season.”
The field at the Sentry Tournament of Champions consisted of the 33 winners of 2018 PGA TOUR events. Of these, 28 wore cleated footwear, including 16 of the top 17 finishers.
